You can check the temperature via the BIOS, which you can access during booting. But, I find using the free software program SpeedFan to be the easiest way to display the temperature of your CPU and other components on the motherboard. You can even use SpeedFan to turn on the fans at a preset temperature of your choosing. The link is (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php)

Publisher's Description:
"SpeedFan monitors fan speeds, temperatures and voltages in computers with hardware monitor chips. It can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. It can even change the FSB on some hardware. At the lowest level, it is a hardware monitor software, but its main feature is that it can control fan speeds according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise and power consumption."

It varies depending on the manufacturer of the card & mobo. Most mobo's will tell you basic temperature in the BIOS.
