Ok so I'm not a big shopper but my friends always try to make me believe that I have to buy the expensive brand-named stuff because that's the "Style" these days and that's what people are wearing...i could care less

yes i want to look good, but...can't i save money in the process?

what's the point of this brand named stuff etc?

I personally don't want to spend tons of money on clothes where I can get something very similar for cheaper

is it me, or is our society way too focused on what people wear? i thought it's the character that makes the man, not what he wears? just my 2 cents

I'm going shopping tomorrow for after xmas and I want to know if i should go to places like target, or places like hollister/jcrew/gap etc

Thanks in advance for your input

You can get brandname stuff pretty cheap at TJMax, Marshalls, or Goodwill.

Definitely check out Target, Forever 21, H&M, and other discount stores for "trendy" items. Hit jcrew, gap, and other "named" stores for basics that are classic and will never go out of style. Being a true fashionista means knowing how to mix the cheaper lines with the more expensive stuff and making it your own. There was just an article about that in the November issue of Vogue. Forget the Hollister.. it is cheap junk that tears easily and doesn't last. Totally over priced. The "rule" is to save your money when it comes to trendy items, but to spend the money on classic items that you can wear for years. I mix $15 items from H&M with designer brands and I get a lot of compliments on the cheaper H&M items. Just be a smart shopper. You can wear the current styles without being "branded".

hey =]

well, in a perfect world, i would totally agree with you.
ideally, you would be right. we should NOT judge people
based on how much their jacket cost, or whether their
sunglasses are "designer". however, we don't live in
a perfect world, and the truth is this: people are going to
judge you (harshly) on whether or not you are fashionable.
that is just how society is today. it's not right, but that's
what it is.

frankly, i can definitelyt tell the difference between
an expensive item and a cheap one. the more expensive
one is better quality, while the cheap ones look poorly
made and...well...CHEAP!

i can always tell a knockoff. but some people can't!
unfortunately, if you're asking whether or not people
will judge you, the answer is yes.

as to whether or not YOU should care,
i'd probably have to go with no!

go ahead and shop at target.
we need more people like you in this world
who don't give a crap about material things. we have
enough paris hiltons.

stick with your gut!
and good luck. =]

Target and Kohls has high quality stuff, not like Walmart. And places like Crew, Gap and those are just charging for the name.

Super Targer has AMAZING clothes that aren't expensive. I got an adorable tank for 4 dollars. You can look good and not wear name brand clothes. Just wear whatever you like.

Go to Target. Target clothes are just as cute as name brands and half the price. Its just proof at how materialsitic out society is, and its sad.

Go to Target. Clothes are for expression, not status or to "fit in". If you don't want to wear that crap, don't wear it, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Personal style is what should be "in", not advertising some overpriced store.
