The various flight tracking programs use real time data from the airlines and control system. My experience has been that they are more accurate on arrival times and more up to the minute than the airlines' websites. I have used them to decide when to start driving to pick people up 30 minutes away at the airport and have seen changes in the route due to weather, etc.
