people really shouldn't give pets for gifts unless the new owner knows how to take care of it. Give it a little bit of raw fruit or veggies- not too much as it will cause diarreha. Hamsters should be fed a good commercial hamster feed with some fresh food daily as a treat. Don't forget clean water every day
