i love my parents to death. and i know they worked their butt's off all year so they could make it a good christmas for me and my family. but my problem is that my parents bought me a lot of stuff that i didnt really want and i didnt really need. they bought me a ton of books for christmas 95% of them, i have already read. i dont know what to do. i dont want to tell them and hurt their feelings, and at the same time i dont want to have a useless book lying around my house making my parents think i dont really care. i dont know what i should do. tell them and take the books back and get some money for something i really want, or act like i like them and move on with my life. i really dont want to see their money go to waste but i dont want to hurt their feelings. what would you do in this situation

Well, one year for Christmas my parents kept asking me if I wanted an Ipod. I told them that I absolutely did Not want an ipod. This was like 4 months before Christmas. BUT, they Did get me an ipod, and a white one at that. So I kept it, and I use it. I have gotten things for Christmas before that I didn't want, or already had, but I just ignored it, I didn't want to hurt their feelings.

In your case I would probably take the books back and use the money to get something else, but do it without telling them. If you already have the books, then they will see them out, so they don't have to know. In this case 'what they don't know won't hurt them,' and I think lying would be nicer than telling them the truth. That is probably what I would do.

**I like beautiful mess's idea to donate them to a book drive.

Tell your parents that you already own the books they got you. That way, they know that they were in the ball park with what you wanted but didn't know you had it. Don't say anything about the things you don't like. Just take them back to the store and get something else. If that's not a possibility, then donate them to charity under your parents names and yours

I also received a book that I already have for Christmas. Since it is by my favorite author, I'm going to keep it because I have double copies of his other books. In your situation, I would just casually mention that I had those books. More than likely they won't be upset if you tell them now instead of later. If you tell them now, they probably won't care if you take them back and get a new set of books.

Well I think you should tell your parents that you have read these books and would really like to give them to other people (i.e. like local shelters), who could really use them. Or maybe you could take them back and get some books that you haven't read . I think they would let you take them back, and if not then give them to a local shelter for people who may not have had the chance to read those books otherwise. It is a win win situation.

tell your parents thank you for the presents. We (my husband and I) work hard all year long. We buy the kids as much as we can afford.....all year long. Did they get everything they wanted, NO. Do we get everything we want or need.....NO. Be grateful for what you have and for having parents who think about you, even if you have read the books. If my kids EVER told me they didnt want what I bought them I would initially be hurt and then tell them to donate to charity cuz they get what they get, no returns.

some books are even better the second or third time you read them.My husband has had some books since before I met him and he still reads them.Books aren't so bad.
They were trying to give you something that would be good for you and thought you would like it.Be nice and keep them.

I don't think it would bother them if you were to tell them the truth. Tell them about the books. Perhaps they can exchange it for something you like and want.
