Edward's Syndrome is caused by having 3 copies - instead of 2 copies - of chromosome 18. This usually occurs before conception. I do not think it is possible for an adult to suddenly get Edward's Syndrome, at any age. The rate of occurrence for Edward's Syndrome is ~ 1 : 3000 conceptions. Although women in their 20's and 30's can conceive Edward's Syndrome babies, there is an increased risk as the woman's age increases.
