My parents can't afford the things I got this year. Well, my dad's company filed bankrupcy and he was out of a job, my mom's in college and doesn't have a job so we don't have insurance. We can't get the COBRA insurance because of how the company laid off all of the workers.
I got a 200 dollar digital camera and my brother got a PSP (expensive). That's about 400 dollars, no including all of the other stuff. I just don't understand. We don't have the money, we can't get a loan, and I don't get it. I just don't understand. How could they afford this? I don't believe in Santa Claus anymore, I want to but I just don't. Stupid school made me think everything had to have a logical reasoning and I've never looked back, honestly. Either way, we can't afford it but I got it.
How is this possible?

It sounds like your parents made a sacrifice to give you something that you don't think was a reasonable sacrifice to make. Parents do the former and kids feel the latter rather often.

Your parents did what all parents try to do for their kids regardless of their financial situation. They tried to make sure you had a good Christmas. Maybe they weren't so smart to buy outside of what they could afford and they surely will be paying for it for a long time, but they did what they thought was a good thing. It is a shame that Christmas has turned into a huge spending issue when people don't have the money. Christmas giving should be about more than electronics and other expensive, trendy gifts and they can be if you all talk about your situation. They obviously didn't want to burden you with it all and went ahead and bought what they couldn't afford. You can ask them not to buy you things while they are financially strapped and ask how you can help. That way they can understand that you know they can't afford stuff right now and you don't need it. It will make their choices easier

I can relate to you right now. My Dad lost his job recently and my mom works and doesn't make much money. Sometimes they just throw the whole money thing aside and justs wants to see you happy since you know it's a rough stage for your family. I know how you feel because my parents bought me about $400 worth of stuff and my mom gave my brother $100.

First off, wow! And I do agree with the others, that credit cards are helpful. But I think it was a miracle from God. Plus, your parents loved you and your brother enough to actually buy it. Just pray, like one other said, and all will work out how God wills in the end.

Parents always find a way. Sometimes with a savings account or Christmas club, sometimes with credit cards, sometimes with the help of grandparents.
A parent's love always finds a way to make Christmas merry for their kids.
Someday when you have kids of your own you will understand.

Its ok. Your parents are going through rough patches like all people. It is Christmas, and they obviously love you very much to buy you all these nice things, so you are very lucky. Just show them your love also and let them deal with it. Maybe get a job like wood gathering or shoveling to help out maybe as a gift. Merry Christmas.

Maybe your parents got a credit card somehow from some of these places that help people with bad credit get started up again.

Maybe your parents thought that you guys should be happy, so maybe they asked people to donate some money for you guys to have an ideal Christmas although your family is going through some hard times.

Speaking as a parent, you have to understand that we do and will find ways to make sure our children get something for Christmas regardless of the circumstances. Whether it be credit, pawning jewelry, or whatever. We find ways. Just be grateful that your parents love you, appreciate the sacrifices they make, and do something special for them (make dinner, clean house, etc.)
