The word you're trying for is "fugue," and it's pronounced "feoog" (as close as I can put it, as it uses a diphthong.) A fugue is a musical piece in many "voices;" lots of different moving lines played or sung simultaneously. Bach wrote many "Prelude and Fugue" pairs, for instance. The phrase you wrote, "...one voice of the cosmic fugue..." means that one voice out of the many in the universe/cosmos is meaningful in some way.

Edit: An hour or two after answering your question, I happened to turn on the TV, and saw Cosmos with the episode title you mention. In this case, I'll vary my answer a little, and say that Carl Sagan points out in the episode that we are a single voice among many, and discusses the vastness of the cosmos. He understood this better than just about anyone I know of; his death a few years ago (it was in 1996 - seems much more recent!) was a great loss to us all.

The folks here who have given musical definitions have, of course, been talking about "fugue," not "fuque"! They are not the same!

A musical style of composition. The melodies cascade and overlap. Bach was a master w/ them.
