In the movie, there is bambi's dad that looks like an elk, but isn't bambi a deer? Is bambi's dad an Elk or a Deer? Personaly I think it is a deer. But it has the distinct characteristics of an Elk.

(bambi's dad) Any comments or suggestions? What do you think? Please anything will do.

All the deer in Bambi are red deer, Cervus elaphus, which is a European species (the original author of the book was from Germany). The American elk is a close relative. I'm not sure what you mean by 'isn't Bambi a deer?' and 'is Bambi's dad an elk or a deer?', because elk are a type of deer. Red deer, fallow deer, white-tailed deer, elk, moose, caribou, etc. all belong to the deer family. By the way, the correct name for a male red deer is a stag (females are hinds and young are calves), so it is incorrect to call Bambi's dad a buck (this term applies to species such as fallow deer and white-tailed deer).

He is indeed a whitetailed deer. At least he tasted like one. Elk are a little more gamy tasting. But really, I think they just made him look kindof like an elk to emphasize his size and importance.

I think you're right, that buck is drawn more like a small elk than a white-tailed deer.

He's a mulatto. He's got the dark neck and head of an elk but he's got the rack and tail of a deer.
