You aren't naive... she probably doesn't know what naive means. Like everyone else said, "sup" is short for "what's up"... however what your friend probably meant is that she was using it as a greeting, which some people do... but that doesn't make you naive for not being able to read her mind.

Sup is a form of Whats Up. It mean how are you. You can respond with a "heey" thats ussually appropriate!

I would say "sup" to mean "what's up?" rather than "hi" though it is used as a greeting like "alright" is.
