What did you try this Christmas that was new or different?

My husband and I spent the night at a nice hotel on Christmas Eve. Just the two of us. No grandkids, no kids, none of our siblings. 24 hours with just the two of us. It may be our new Christmas tradition! The before and after time was with relatives that we love dearly.

As you get older each Christmas gets a little different if you want it that way or not. Family and friends that you exchanged visits with for years are either gone now or not well enough to get around. There were Christmas's that we would travel up to 700 miles, one way, to be with family for a day or two but now we hardly get out of the house.

How fun!! Wish we could have thought of something different to do-a trip maybe. Just me and 2 teens left at home. Did have the married daughter and her family this morning. The only thing I did differently was downsize on the amount of gifts. Instead of several smaller I just bought each person 1 gift. It looked skimopy under the tree-but saved my sanity as well as my budget. Did most of my shopping online. So my theme this year was Simplify!!

This year was the first year that we had no gifts. We decided this as a family, and I must say that it was the best Christmas ever! Your new tradition sounds like something that I might try in the next year. How fabulous!

Like another contributor, I did most of my shopping on line. I loved it ! Bought my son 2 Ed Hardy t-shirts ( as worn by the Hollywood celebrities) for half-price on EBay, got my daughter a hair straightener from the warehouse for a good price. And bought magazine subscriptions for several relatives. It was all so easy, quick delivery and I didn't have to brave the packed shopping malls !

I stayed home, due to throwing my back out, and/or bad kink in my neck. Couldn't get dressed, brush my hair etc...finally after many exhausting hours of enduring this discomfort a migraine takes over, and so now, very shortly I'm on my way to catch some zzz's. But my spirit is still great...just knowing many are making the best out of family time and/or have participated in making someones Christmas a bit brighter this holiday. To witness their happiness is beautiful indeed. Thanks for asking.

We went to see the grandkids 2 days early to avoid the traffic and crowds in the hotel. It went great until the trip home in near zero visibility.

We stayed home. Alone... just the two of us... it's been quiet and very nice. Hubby did the cooking... that was amazing, I'm so lucky!
