You and a freind are riding bycicles. You ride for 80 minutes at a speed of 15 miles per hour. Your friend rides the same amount at a speed of 12 miles per hour. How many miles did each of you travel?

Really, though, the way you have it phrased, you will both have travelled an equal distance, that being 20 miles.

I suppose, though, that you want the distance each of you has travelled during 80 minutes. Turn an hour into 60 minutes, and it will become easy. For you it will be 15/60 (1/4) x 80 = 20. For your friend it will be 12/60 (1/5) x 80 = 16.

Always pay attention to obviously even divisors on future tests, including the SAT.

80 minutes = 4/3 hours
15*4/3=20 miles
12*4/3=16 miles

For each person, convert the 80 minutes to a decimal expression of time in hours, and multiply by the rate of speed.
