SMG - Can I get 120 stars before I go to the center of the universe?

no. once you get around like 105 (i might be a little off) you have no other option other than going to the center of the universe and beating bowser. once you beat him, you will go back and there will be a purple comit floating around. i believe there are 15 stars you need to get by going to levels and collecting 100 purple coins. then you can get 120 stars. after that, go back and fight bowser again and when you beat him you can play as luigi. once you do the same thing with luigi, a secret level is unlocked and you can get 121 stars. some of the purple coin levels are very hard and very frustrating.
