Mithrandir (I always love this name better than Gandalf). It was he who have always been vigilant against Sauron. I love his short temper, his fireworks and his wisdom. Good thing he was perfectly portrayed by Sir Ian McKellen (unlike Dumbledore's Gambon!). I also loved Faramir because unlike his brother Boromir, he did not succumb to the lure of the ring (I hate that movie part where they depicted him bringing Sam and Frodo to Gondor!) He has wisdom and humility unlike Boromir and Denethor. Among the hobbits, I like Peregrin Took the most because of his humor and foolishness.

Least favorite? None. I even like the orks (after reading The SIlmarillion and reading how they were once elves that was captured and tortured by Morgoth. But if it comes down to it, Saruman because of his greed for power, his treachery and his skill of luring people by his words.

Edit: lupinesidhe has a good point regarding Arwen. She's right. Peter Jackson just played up her part in the movies. Eowyn is a stronger character in the books. But after the action, I welcomed the romance in Tolkien's appendices! lol)

First of all, I love your picture. Adorable. :D

My favorite character would be Legolas, Galadriel and Gandalf. Legolas because he can say something better than a human without saying anything, and all the elves were so noble. It has nothing to do with Orlando Bloom, I refuse to like him because so many girls loove him. ;)
Galadriel because she's wise and beautiful, not that looks matter.
And Gandalf because he's also wise and stern but he has a gentle fatherly side. And he just wants justice. (I also like Sam, Aragorn, Eomir, Faramir, Gimli....need I go on?

Least favorite, would be the obvious Grima Wormtongue, and Denethor. But my least favorite of the good guys would probably be Eowyn. Not so much in Return of the King, but definitely in the Two Towers. I didn't like Boromir in the first one either, btu after the exteneded edition of the Two Towers I liked him a lot more. I could go on and on, sorry if this was too long.

My favorite character from the books is a toss up between Gandalf, Goldberry and Tom Bombadil.

Least favorite, Arwen. Without a doubt. It seemed like tolkien put her in as an afterthought. Her character was never really developed beyond a face in the crowd and an eventual queen. Through the entire story, she serves no purpose.

My favorite character changes a lot. Frodo, Pippin, Gandalf, Faramir, Boromir, Galadriel, Sam, even Aragorn on odd days...depends on the day. Right now perhaps Treebeard. But he can't sing.

Least favorite: Denethor--reminds me too much of my own father in unflattering ways. (But he's still an interesting character)
