Are you in England or Wales? If so it's simple - there are no 'standard' hours for selling alcohol any more. Every supermarket, off-licence, pub, bar, restaurant, etc has it's own licence (called a Premises Licence) and that licence says when the place can sell alcohol.
If the newspapers hadn't kept banging on about '24-hour drinking' back in 2005 and explained what was actually changing there wouldn't have been so much confusion.
The other possible explanation is that Asda don't want to sell alcohol between midnight and 8am even if their licence allows them to - maybe they don't want the hassle of the post-pub crowd coming to buy more booze.

ASDA quite rightly so no do not sell booze between the times you mention.Kids have been in the stores after 12 mid and terrorising shoppers and steaing booze.I do beleive their Licence does extend between these times, and it appears to be a company descision.

No way! I start up my Christmas paying for after Halloween so as that i'm regularly carried out by utilising Thanksgiving. I generally end off my paying for on Black Friday. i individually love Christmas paying for on the mall while the shops are adorned and yuletide is interior the air. by utilising Christmas Eve, i'm carried out and all my presents are wrapped. paying for on Christmas Eve must be worse than Black Friday!

I imagine you are in Scotland? If so don't blame Asda they are abiding by Scottish Law and would be in real trouble if they didn't. Also on a Sunday alcohol cannot be sold in Scotland until 12.30pm. Sounds crazy to me too but the law is the law and Asda don't dare break it.

if its like it is in the US then it depends on the particular business' liquor license. Some stores have special license' to sell at special times, some have limited licenses. It just depends.
I lived in a town once that would ONLY allow bars, but no liquor stores. So people could drink and drive, but heaven forbid they be allowed to take it home and drink safely. lol Does that make any more sense to you?? lol

No it doesn't. I would have thought that it would be safer the other way round. That is our country for you. Encourage drivers to buy alcohol and not everyday shoppers! Go figure!
