Absolutely. The hand guns are kept locked in a fire proof safe - the only way to open it is to know the combination - those are loaded as my husband takes them with him everyday when he leaves for work, and then locks them back up in the safe when he gets home. All rifles are kept up on racks and unloaded. Ammo for most of them is in an entirely separate building, with the exception of the 22. The ammo for it is accessible only to tall adults, but kept separate (and in a secret place) from the firearm. I need quick access to ammo for the 22, in situations (for instance) when I have to scare coyotes away from my outdoor animals. As for intruders in the house:) I wouldn't want to shoot inside as I'm afraid a bullet will ricochet and hit one of the kids - luckily I know how to make effective use of a butt stock! :D

Locking a gun in a rack or gunsafe is the silliest idea in the world.

"Excuse me Mr Robber, but would you mind just getting yourself a cup of coffee while I get my gun out of the gunsafe and go get the ammo from a different location?"

My gun is locked up ONLY when I'm out of the house. The rest of the time it sits, loaded, on my nightstand.

My sons when they lived here, also kept theirs handy too.

(Since they're now both deployed on active duty, I *really* hope they still do the same)

I have a shotgun ready for action in less than 10 seconds with ammo within arm reach. And I have a revolver under the bed that I can bring to action in a moments notice.
I never lock up or store away all my guns because in an emergency I dont want to fiddle with a key in the middle of the night or press a combination key pad in the dark when I need the gun within seconds.

I own a Rossi.357 Magnum snub-nose that I keep loaded with law enforcement type .357 Magnum hollow points and I'm not dumb enough to tell you where I keep it. I DO have a metal gun safe with no glass in it at all but I don't keep my personal protection weapon in it. I also have a carry permit so it goes with me when I leave the house. If finances permit, I would like to get a Browning or Glock 9mm this year. If you should happen to be a burglar, you would be ill-advised to come to my house. Not saying you are but one never knows, do we?

Yes, The gun is in the locked Gun Cabinet, with a trigger lock. The magazine is in the tool box & the ammo is somewhere in the closet.
I also have a sign on my gate that requests for the burglur to knock b4 burglury attepmt (these, to give me time to load).

It's in my nightstand locked and loaded. You have a firearm for protection against home invaders, none of whom are going to wait for you to get your key, open, assemble, lock and load your weapon to stop them. When I'm not home, my room is locked and is off limits to my children unless I am in the room. My kids, now 13 and 15 y/o girls have both been trained in the use of my firearm and are knowledgeable of gun safety.
I have done everything I can to prevent a home gun accident, but I will not lock it up and have it where it can't ge used in case of emergency.
I have a fire extinquisher too and it is mounted next to the kitchen, best place for a fire extinquisher, right? If I kept it in the shed outside it wouldn't help much in case of fire.

Yes I have a gun in my home, no it's not secure, it is easily accessable and the loaded magazine is right next to it. It is however out of plain sight.
I don't have any children in my home and I live in a tough neighborhood.

Yes, but it's not "secure" by your definition. It's much more in a state of readiness than you suggest.

And I am all in favor of gun control. That means being able to hit what you're aiming at.

best place to keep your belongings is like under a bed or in your drawer like all the way at the back or bottom. i keep mine in a storage closet because their is a secret door and no one else knows the lock code but me :]

No. Mine is loaded and in easy reach. Do you think a burglar is going to give take a break until you get it out and load it? If you have kids though I wouldn't recommend this.
