I really want to break a Guinness World Record, but I'm not really the sort of person with a whole ton of time and money. Can you help me out?

How about...breaking a record on how long you can hold your breath? That won't take much time and will cost nothing.
Edit: Someone already said that.

Standing on your head.

Staying awake

It would be best if you sponsor your friends to solicit funds to hire a certified Guinness judge in order for you to break your record.

You can save postage by telling about your attempt at a world record by the Web to all of the people that you like. That way, those people can tell other people that you need monetary support.

Good luck on your world record.....

Figure out what you are already good at and go from there. You might try creating the world's most viewed video on the internet. If you set that record high, then you might start that world record.
