An open minded person is willing to consider alternatives, regardless of weather he has already reached concrete conclusions in that aspect of his philosophy. It does not mean that the person does not have beliefs, ideals, etc. It does not mean that the person changes with every new thing to come along.

I think it means that one who is quick not to judge something that they aren't familiar with. A lot of people say, " I know what I like." But to me that is like saying, " I like what i know". An open minded person is willing to look beyond what is on the surface.

I may not accept other's ideas, but i am open minded in the sense that I accept that other people have their own opinions which may be juxtaposed to my own, they may or may not be valid, my opinion of that won'tchange their validity nor vice versa, I think I am open minded..
By the Way, Christianity is pretty silly..

That they don't get offended easily on touchy subjects, and don't get upset easily. My coworkers were eons ahead, of being open minded. They liked to discuss openly very sensitive personal things, about themselves, and others. It took along time to treat it like everyday water cooler stuff. It stuck with me, even now.

Usually, it refers to being accepting of other ideas. Close-minded people tend to have a certain set of ideas, beliefs, and opinions and are "stuck on them", meaning anything that opposes their viewpoints the are quick to shut out.
An open-minded person says "ahhh, maybe I need to rethink my ideas and viewpoint and listen to the other sides/options".

That the individuals that they are speaking of are not narrow, closed, or simple minded.
To me an open mind refers to just that, someone who is open to all.
