Wouldn't it be a carbon credit, since they would prevent it being burned. Thus preventing global warming.

It would be the perfect gift. They can guard the lump of coal and protect it so it doesn't give off any carbon dioxide. That way they can feel good about themselves for protecting the environment. Great gift idea.

Actually, an environmentalist would not know what to do with a chunk of coal, having never been exposed to anything less than perfect. It wouldn't really be the perfect gift, as they would have no comprehension of it's true use or purposes.
And a carbon credit is a farce made up by Algore to justify his use of private jets to get everywhere.
The perfect gift for an environmentalist would be a hydrogen fuel cell car, but in time they would find fault with that, too.

It would also drive the price of coal up a tiny bit more.
