If it is fresh, water based paint, you should be able to get it up with a damp rag without making a huge mess. For this method, you reach down with your rag over your hand and surround the area, pulling up instead of rubbing in. This brings out as much as possible. Next, you rinse the rag out and then pull and squeeze the fibers in an upward motion again preventing spreading. When you have gotten it all out, take a damp rag and rub in a circular motion to re-blend the fibers. KRUD KUTTER in the paint department of Wal-Mart or your home improvement store will work. As will Mean green or simple green but if the carpet is white, you don't want to use the last two suggestions as they may discolor the carpet to green. Counter productive.

Hopefully you only have sprinkles, if it is latex paint you should be able to move it with warm dawn detergent water. Scrub it in with a tooth brush and then blot it dry. You don't say what color the carpet or the paint is. There is a product called 'goo gone" that will get it out also and you can get it at Lowe's or home depot. Read the directions carefully and don't soak either product into the padding as it will cause it to swell. Next time be sure to use a drop cloth or plastic and you will save yourself alot of headache and clean up.
