My mom says it's not a good idea, but as long as I have an uncomplicated vaginal birth I don't see the problem. I don't remember any excessive fatigue from my first two, and I really want to spend my summer at home with family, not at school during break. Isn't the baby's first checkup at 6 weeks anyway?

Would there be any challenges driving with a baby so young? Of course I'll speak to my doctor first.

While the odds are in your favor that everything would turn out OK, I still think it is an unwise move. Those of us in the medical profession have seen unexpected complications in infants or in mothers within a few days of birth. My partner's wife had a sudden near fatal hemorrhage four days after birth.

I recommend you take a safer course.

Is it possible to fly or take the train instead? I have flown with a young baby and driven with a young baby. It's not a good idea to drive with a brand new baby, but it's possible. You really need more rest after birth.

The biggest challenge with driving with a newborn is that they poop and eat so darned often. You'll be pulling over every hour or two to feed and change you little one. On an airplane, you can put the baby in a sling and just open up your top when he gets hungry. I've even changed a poopy diaper on an airplane! I didn't enjoy it, but it had to be done . . .

Baby check up is at one - two weeks. Traveling with a baby that young would prove to be long and hard but you could do it. You would have to stop alot. If you had a doctor lined up by your mom then going to see the doctor isn't a big deal. If I was you I would wait a week or to just for you to get used to having a new baby and to let your body heal.
Good Luck

no real problem, your baby would probably be sleeping alot anyway, mine did. As long as you have a doctor where your mum is for YOURSELF and the baby incase of any problems then go for it. But as always dont rely on having a normal uncomplicated birth and make plans incase you want to leave a few days later, better late than never

Well my babys first checkup was at 2 weeks then 4 then 8 weeks. Oh YES there will be lots of challenges driving with a new born, you will have to keep stopping to feed him/her and to change diapers, not to mention when they just want to be held or just want attention. Rest for 2 days? I dont think there will be any resting unless your having someone else take care of they baby. So yeah I'd have to agree with your mom.

I don't think there is any reason why your baby shouldn't be in the car. After all, most kids come home from hospital in a car. I don't think you should be driving though. It was months before I had the energy to be safe for long distance driving. Short trips yes, long trips, no. If you have someone to share driving with, I think it's ok. If not, I think it's a bad idea.

well even after giving birth, 2 days rest is not a lot (we tend to forget abou that this birth could also be totally different than the others), especially if you are to drive 1000 miles on your own!.
you ll need to make regular stops (between feeds, and nappies and check up). it is wiser to have someone with you for the trip (you could have complication or something from the birth). check up is at 1 week ad 1 months if i remember.
if you are still going for it, drive safely.

Baby's first check up is two days after birth. Followed by two weeks after birth. They have upped the schedule and my information is two years old. I understand your wanting to go but unless there is a good pediatrician that you can go to there, I'd wait.

im not sure what your doc will say, i say rent an RV with a nice bed and have your good friend drive you home. you and the baby should relax.least amount of motion as possible.55 mph in the slow lane.prolly better than an airline.

It would be difficult, very difficult. You'll still be sore and tired, and it would be hard to feed, change, and hold the baby often enough.
