Obviously, the key will be fun, since you will start at a rec department level or at a beginner's level with younger kids. Teach hitting the ball properly with neutral gripping of the racket...and start the kids on a wall or backboard.

Too many times the lessons begin and a child's motivation ends by frustration...cannot get the ball over the net or keep the ball in play. Get them confident in hitting the ball before getting them onto a court.

And serving is an entire lesson plan in itself. The key is groundstrokes before serving and you may not get to this before the lessons/sessions are over.

Find a coach with plenty experience, proven track record and someone whose tennis beliefs are similar to yours. Ask this person to be your mentor. There be someone like that at the club you work or play at. Having a good mentor has helped me more than than certification although certification are also great.

There is a school for coaching career. These schools would be able to give you the necessary tips for coaching. The teachers will also be able to advice you properly.
