Whether you believe Christ was born on this very day is beside the point.

So, what IS the point?

Phoebe, Caveman, and Mahees:
I'm glad to see those who understand what the point of Christmas really is!

Merry Christmas to all who answered.

It is now after midnight where I live and no longer Christmas Day. Time to choose an answer. I can only choose one even though there are four great answers. I would have chosen all four if I could.

Who is this Jesus, and what must I do to get saved?

I don't know about you, but I'm always up for another excuse to have fun with my family. And besides, I don't think the Lord would mind us especially emphasizing John 3:16 (& all that goes with it) during a particular season of the year. Whether or not we know Jesus' actual birthday & no matter how this date & certain traditions were started, there is no Biblical prohibition of these festivities.

The Bible tells us that the Lord looks at the heart, & one's heart's intentions during this season is no exception. It may surprise some of those who answered when you asked this again that God is NOT a kermudgeony old fuddy-duddy who frowns at any display of fun His children may enjoy.

The biggest objections I have during this season are the deification of "Santa" & the commercial rackets surrounding this holiday.

It is past midnight in Ontario, where I live, but we can have the spirit of this holy season all year long, just by remembering a child that was given, for love of us.

That God provided peace on earth and good will towards men through his son Jesus the Christ. Not to mention peace with him by Jesus fulfilling the requirements of the law.
