I recently bought a 91 Lumina and while driving to family's house a spark plug blew out. I tried to clean out the threads and put a new plug in but it blew out, so i installed a helicoil in and followed the instructions perfectly. would you expect this to last a long while? Only asking because i got a long drive through the mountains coming up, and i know that will sure test if it will blow out the helicoil or not.

Yes, a properly installed helicoil should last the life of the car, many have. There is another thread repair, named "Time-Serts"
which are better than Helicoils, are harder to find, but are normally permeant fixes. They come with a complete installation kit which makes it hard not to do a proper installation.
There are other repairs similar to Time serts available, do not have a complete installation kit, as they use normally available tools, are good, but requires a larger hole to be installed in. This gives problems in close quarters, and is harder to install in a cylinder head, on the car. Neither these, or Time Serts are likely to blow out, and will not jam and come out, if you start a plug a bit crooked.

Yes they will. I have worked on aircraft engines whom use helicoil as standard protocal for sparkplugs. These last as long as the engine and in many cases will last for several overhauls with no problems. Your car should not have any problems.
