The European Union has taken a strong stand in banning genetically modified agriculture, but it is prevalent in the US. Is it safe to be eating corn that was altered genetically to produce more kernals or pigs that genetically modified to be heavier? Do you even know if the food you buy is genetically modified or not?

It doesn't "scare" me but I do not like the thought of it at all.

It doesn't scare me, but modified food should thoroughly be tested. There is a chance that some protein
(genetically speaking) that was modified may be indirectly responsible for this other protein that moderates the initialization of that hormone such that it may become a health hazard. But this won't be as bad of a problem in crops as in livestock. It would take an unlikely serious and obvious blunder to make any food crop toxic.

You can basically assume all of the food you buy is genetically modified. In fact, Monasto and ADM are the 2 corporations that basically have a hand in anything you could ever buy in your grocery store; from the animal feed that will end up in your hamburger, to the ingredients in your salad dressing.

No, it does not scare me, but it seriously concerns me. Especially since both companies have been involved with global scandals. In fact, ADM was involved in one of the largest global conspiracies to fix the price of a fattening animal feed. All this and upper management was still embezzling millions of dollars into corporate accounts.

So surely, the "scientific analysis" these corporations produce concerning their own products is seriously suspect to anyone with common sense. However, I think if we better understood the scientific ramifications we would all be very very scared.

No , it does not scare me at all.

I think there needs to be some precautions so that genetically modified crops aren't released into nature & take over an ecological environment. But this happens without genetic engineering. Ex. People dump their fish tanks into streams & the live plants that were in the fish tanks end up crowding out natural plants in the streams.

Yes, genetically modified food concerns me a lot! And yes, the government should put strict regulations on it . I don't feel that it is safe - but we won't know for a few years down the road when people start developing these "mysterious" illnesses. Scary...

ever wonder why there are so many over weight people in America these days.it;s because the FDA who is suppose to be looking out for our interest and our health.are letting farmers put growth hormones in the food chain.that hormone is pasted on to the human consuming the meat chain.and that causes over weight people by the millions.causing heart attacks, strokes, and all kinds of illness.all in the name of the Almighty dollar.genetically modified food is the way of life here in America now a days.the government is just letting things happen and does;nt care.that;s why you don;t see that many over weight people in the rest of the world. because their government won;t allow such under handed things like that happen to their people.just about all meat products in the USA now a days is genetically modified.we as a country are killing our people off just for the love of money.

Yes it scares me. Yes the U.S. government should be regulating it more strongly "and" do it by following the EU lead.
The U.S., when entrusted with our health and safety as it claims to be can not lead, it needs to get out of the way so that those who are qualified can lead.
If our agriculture and animal products are not safe I believe
we as U.S. Citizens should be allowed more options as provided by our own incompetant government. Seeing that they can't provide credible research they should demote themselves to common but capable food inspector and I don't mean like the ones we already have which are limited and few and far between.
