It varies with the individual family. My mother would wait until Jan 6 which was known as the Feast of the Epiphany (aka "Little Christmas" ) to take the tree down. Some people take it down on Dec 26, still others wait for New Years Day".
Most people I know will take it down the weekend following Christmas Day, simply because that's the only free time they have.

When I put up a real tree I get it Thanksgiving weekend. We usually take it down a week or so after New Year's. If it's artificial we put it up earlier in November. We start Christmas celebrations around November 7. The Christmas season is too short. For me it's about the entire season not just one day.

I don't celebrate the Secular Christmas. I celebrate Advent, the Nativity, Christmas (all 12 days) and Epiphany. I may give out some presents, but there is no tree or anything like that. I like this way a lot better because it is for the most part stress free compared to the secular counterpart.

It's terrible but I usually put the tree up a week before Christmas and take it down right after new years. We need as much room as we can get right now just to live...lol

Ours has been up since Dec. 2 and we'll probably take it down on Jan. 1. I 'undecorate' while the Rose Parade is on TV. My son's birthday is Jan. 4 so I don't like Christmas decorations to still be up on his birthday -- I want it to be *his* day, not a leftover of Christmas.

Every moment that teh tree stays up makes it a more dangerous fire hazard, because the tree is dead, & it is drying up by the nimute, becoming more apt to catch fire! I wouldn't have one in my house!
