Cause holiday shopping = hell.
The holiday has become so material and commercial. Everyone is irritable, crowded stores with cranky people who feel the need to spend more than reasonable amounts of hard earned cash to buy gifts for relatives they rarely see, children who are ungrateful, and coworkers they hate. Simply because "that's what you do at Christmas." Only to receive in return something you didn't need, don't want, and no thank yous of course that'd be to much to ask for.
Overall the holidays have become selfish. Not everyone is mean, but anymore life is one big competition to financially show someone else up, and you can only do that by buying them a bigger and more expensive gift than they give you.
----
The above is why I like Secret Santa's with set dollar ammounts.

Most christians are mean on christmas because no matter how much they say they dont, they only care about their own personal gain. Then after they get their pathetic gifts, they always tell the other parties to piss off.

christmas is sometimes very stressfull when your christmas shopping, and maybe if you didn't get a good gift. but I don't understand also why people are so mean to eachother sometimes, maybe they've forgoten the true meaning of christmas.
well anyways, MERRY XMAS!

I wish I knew more about what you are experiencing. All I can guess is that they build up big expectations towards this day and are stressed shopping for gifts etc and probably do not get enough sleep. Its sad. We found that not exchanging gifts made it easier on everyone and we just get together for a meal and chat.

probably they are depressed and stressed out cause they aren't happy with their lives right now. And they maxed out their credit cards and have to pay it off meaning they got to work a lot in the next couple of months.
