Although I agree that there are many other beliefs out there Christmas is celebrated in memory of CHRIST JESUS. There are many othe holidays in the year, there is only Christmas to celebrate the biggest present ever received. Wishing you a Merry Christmas means I wish you to go through this special holiday season without mishaps or illness. You see, the celebration for many is from 25 Dec through 6 Jan when Epiphany is celebrated. This event represent the arrival of the three wise men to bring gifts to Baby Jesus. Remember, Jesus is The Reason for This Season.

In America, the Media says Happy Holidays mostly because America is diverse and includes people of all religions. Other countries are completely different. I think in Britain, they usually say "Happy Christmas." Yeah, they don't have such a diverse poplution but there are plenty of Indians there that are Hindu and Muslim. Maybe I'm wrong and they do say "Happy Holidays" but just about every thing I've been exposed to that came out of Britain, I've only heard "Happy Christmas."
Back to my original point, yeah, the Media says "Happy Holidays" but lots of ignorant people in general out there only say "Merry Christmas."

I only say Happy Holidays. They're probably just saying Merry Christmas today because it is Christmas today.

i'm not christian (i'm muslim in fact) and i say Merry Christmas. its a bit unfair that all this political correctness is taking the christmas out of christmas! honestly i do not find it offensive at all saying merry christmas. its a fun time of year. its not fair that they should have to respect our Eid celebrations yet we cant extend the same respect for their holiday.

Well I think its as simple as a majority rule thing. If the majority of people like hearing Hi said to them, then the majority of people will say Hi to everyone.

Same basic principle.
