When ever I try watching a DVD on my computer it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." Where would I get this decoder? Would it be in my dell Operating System CD?

I have a dell dimension E521

Go to support.dell.com, click on "Drivers and Downloads," choose your computer's model, and that will take you to the drivers. Download drivers under I think "DVD" or something like that. If not there, or you can't find it, go back to support.dell.com and click "Chat With Us," where you'll be able to talk to a Dell technician.

Try the link below for the codecs. If it doesn't work download the newer version of windows media player. There should be a setting in the windows media player where you can select to use all the codecs available.

There are several free softwares. You try them through internet. Certain softwares used for other applications may be downloaded even if they are for trial. Just random download of many of these softwares may make it work. Just try. I am not sure. But I have seen certain softwares meant for certain applications worked for other applications too.

It won't be on the OS cd itself. You should have additional disks that contain your DVD software/drivers. Please locate that CD and insert it into your CD-ROM drive. Install the software/drivers and tah-dah!!!! :) Merry Christmas :-)

I agree with Robert... Go to www.dell.com and find the dvd drivers!
