If your income isn't enough why not try something else?

I grew up poor in substandard housing, my mother made our clothes, and we had a garden so we could eat year round. I make a lot of money now, double or triple more than my father did during his lifetime of working for a living. I work hard, but I'm not poor. I don't feel guilty, but I also don't feel superior to those who don't have what I've got.

But I won't ever forget what it was like to know that some of the people around me were struggling to eat and stay warm, even though they worked night and day at their farms. I find it disgusting that people make millions of dollars at their desk jobs, when people who are physically laboring night and day, 365 days a year, still don't have enough to eat or stay warm.

The American dream is a fantasy for many Americans, no matter how hard and long they work. I don't see what a few people could ever do to "deserve" the majority of the wealth in this country. I think if you work hard for your living, you deserve more than being spat on for being "unlucky".

Nobody "works hard" at being poor.

The almighty market just pays more for some types of work than for others. F*ck all markets.

You should not have to force yourself into a line of work that you absolutely hate, just to keep your head above water. Yeah, I know there are times when you won't always like your job, but I'm talking about people who have absolutely no aptitude for the huge money-makers. Some of us work our @sses off, but we do not happen to be good at business or entertainment or sports - so we make less money.

Besides, if the people at the top were more willing to share, that wouldn't be a BAD thing. If a person already has more money than he could possibly spend in one lifetime, why would he feel so desperate and greedy about holding on to every single dime?

My CEO makes 1M/yr and creates bonuses and stock options for himself and his cronies for an average of another 1M/yr. The average hourly employee makes 40k/yr with overtime. Executive health insurance gets better while the employee's health insurance cost more and pays out less. Their pay increases are 5% while the employees get 3%. Their income taxes have gone down and the tax on the options are almost nil. The employee's taxes have dropped a little, but inflation has taken away any gains.

We understand that only a few can be at the top, but why should they get all the tax benefits while those at the bottom get only crumbs. Why should they earn enormous amounts of money and then ship jobs overseas because the employees make too much.

Yes we do bash the rich, but we do work harder just to try to keep our jobs.

Actually, I find that I do.

I won't sacrifice my ethics for a paycheck...

As a result, I was able to afford less in terms of Christmas gifts this year...

I need to find a job that I feel "good" about working... that's not too easy these days but it can be done.

I think more Americans should be concerned about finding a job that doesn't ask them to compromise their basic sense of goodness and decency.

Even jobs that ask you to break the law are becoming more common these days...

I make less than 30k/yr for now. I know it will go up because I will work for it. I, like you do not understand the mentality of those who do very little or nothing with their lives and whine about those who worked hard to get what they have. It's simple, you want more money? Make a career change and work hard. Do not blame those who have money for your mistakes or your lack of desire to better your own life.

I only feel guilty if I become lax. I love making more money.
