According to a recent article, Bush's belief that God told him to go to war could be part of a fascist, radical Christian right group's belief system, the Dominionist branch, that Huckabee has close ties to:
"Huckabee has close ties with the Christian Reconstructionist or Dominionist branch of the Christian right. The Dominionist movement, which seeks to cloak itself in the mantle of the Christian faith and American patriotism, is small in numbers but influential. It departs from traditional evangelicalism. It seeks to redefine traditional democratic and Christian terms and concepts to fit an ideology that calls on the radical church to take political power. It shares many prominent features with classical fascist movements."
"Under Christian dominion, America will no longer be a sinful and fallen nation but one in which the Ten Commandments form the basis of our legal system, in which creationism and “Christian values” form the basis of our educational system, and the media and the government proclaim the Good News to one and all. Labor unions, civil rights laws and public schools will be abolished. Women will be removed from the work force to stay at home, and all those deemed insufficiently Christian will be denied citizenship."
It explains why some American Christian right-wing fundamentalists such as Huckabee, want Christian "public" schools, think women should be submissive to their husbands (as stated in the Bible), and why he thinks gays who have AIDS should be quarantined and isolated from "non-sinners".
Bush seems like small change compared to this group of right-wing fanatics:

It's funny that Lincoln also claimed to listen to God. I'm not saying Bush is Lincoln's caliber, but America would be vastly different if Lincoln hadn't listened to God.

That weirds me out. So many murderers, rapists, etc. have "heard voices" telling them to do terrible things.
I think it's delusion...and egotism...why would God speak to HIM? Bush must think he's awfully important...equating himself with someone like, say, Jesus.
And it's an excuse. If I hit my boyfriend and said, "Well, God told me to do it" (either literally OR metaphorically), people would still hold me accountable--they wouldn't think "Oh, okay, well if that's what God said..."

Well, hey. [G]od told me to vote against BushCo.
[G]od also told me to stop letting right-wing Christians boss me around.
Can you prove he DIDN'T? Well, can you? Hmmm?
