Cleveland's game does not matter. If Tennessee wins, the Titans are in. If Tennessee loses, then Cleveland gets in. Cleveland can lose, and if Tennessee loses, then Cleveland is in.
The primary tie breaker, other than if Cleveland and Tennessee had played each other this year, is divisional record. If Tennessee wins against Indy this week, that will make them 4-2 in their division. Cleveland is done with divisional play, and they were 3-3 in their division this year. If Tennessee loses to Indy, that makes them 3-3 as well, and it moves to the next tie breaker, which is conference record. Cleveland is 7-5, and with the loss to Indy, Tennessee would be 6-6.
Confusing, but that is the NFL playoff tie breakers for ya...
EDIT: My apologies. What I laid out earlier was the tiebreaker scenario if the two teams were in the same division, which they are not. Thanks for the correction, guns... After conference record, the next tiebreaker is common opponents. The 4 common opponents this year between Tennessee and Cleveland were Cincinnati, Oakland, Houston and the New York Jets. Clevelands record against these 4 was 3-2, and Tennessee's was 4-1. The one loss that sticks out to me is Cleveland losing to Oakland early in the year. If Cleveland could have beaten Oakland, which it should have, we wouldnt be having this conversation. Then again, Cleveland wouldnt be Cleveland if they didnt lose games, now would they??

Right now Tennessee has a worse conference record than Cleveland. Check it out for anyone who doesnt believe it, the Titans last game is against a conference team and the Browns isnt. So if Tennessee wins it forces a tie and they hold the tie breaker. No matter what Tennessee must win to be in if they lose then no matter what Cleveland does they are in.

Tennessee outcome is only thing that has any influence on it,,, Cleveland plays out of conference and is 7-5....
TN plays Indy... if TN wins they are 7-5 in conference and 4-1 vs common opponents with Cleveland, Cleveland is 3-2... So TN goes on the 3rd tie breaker....
IF TN loses they are 6-6 in conference and Cleveland wins the 2nd tie breaker of conference record.... So Clevelands game means nothing as far as who goes to playoffs... only momentum for Cleveland if they get in.

I don't know.....I was wondering the same thing. I'm from Nashville and I read in the paper yesterday that if they both end up with a 10-6 record, TN would go to the playoffs. It never really explained why that was. TN didn't play Cleveland this year so it can't be a tie breaker that way. Basically, it said that if TN wins Sunday, they go. If they lose, Cleveland goes.

The only scenario in which the Browns go to the playoffs is if the Browns win and the Titans lose. If both teams win, then the Titans advance, and if both teams lose, then the Titans advance. The Titans have a better conference record, and this is the tiebreaker to decide which team goes to the playoffs when both teams have the same regular season record.

With the Titans playing Indy, it will be a conference game, so if the Titans win, they will have a better conference record than Cleveland, and so will win the tiebreaker. If the Titans do not win, Cleveland holds the tiebreaker and will be in regardless of anything.

whoa whoa whoa. end actual now.... Tennesse does not deserve a playoff spot???? They play interior the toughest branch interior the NFL! Why do they no longer deserve a gap? Or greater advantageous yet, you instruct me why the Browns deserve a gap over them. who've the Browns overwhelmed? What communities with a triumphing checklist? i'm going to make the checklist for you - Seattle. it extremely is it. They beat a Seattle team that purely has overwhelmed one team with a triumphing checklist (a particular win over Tampa Bay interior the start of the season). The Browns does not have the potential to compete with any of the AFC playoff communities. For them to even come on the element of the worst different playoff team (Pittsburgh), they necessary a incredible sport from their specific communities. i'm sorry, yet enjoying Baltimore and Cincinatti two times, as nicely through fact the Dolphins, Jets, Rams, and Raiders confident as hell greater advantageous assure you a minimum of an 8-8 season. Your biased perspectives in direction of the Browns does not lead them to from now on advantageous. Sorry. yet to respond to your question, through fact they did no longer play head to head, the subsequent tiebreaker is going to triumphing proportion in video games against convention warring parties. The Titans have a greater advantageous one.

If they both lose then Browns get in, If Titans win they automatically get in because they have a better record within the conference.

Because since they never played and thus neither owns the tiebreaker then it will come down to conference record. It Tennessee beats Indy they will have the better conference record and thus will go to the playoffs.
