No Sara. If you buy a gift for someone, it is theirs. The fact that it turned out to be a winner makes you a wonderful friend but their is no entitlement to sharing the money won. Think about this for a moment,,,,,,why did you buy a lottery ticket to begin with? Did you buy it with a hope it would win? That is why anyone buys that same ticket. You just happen to have some great luck and get a $1000 winner. By the way, you could ask and see how much of a friend you truly have and see if that person will split it,,,,but there is no obligation. Sorry I am not agreeing with you. Dont let this spoil your friendship.

I wouldn't think so. I have bought many tickets for others and like with my kids on occasion I will get them an easy one. I say if you win over this amount you have to put it in the bank or give it to your parents etc..
If you don't make stipulations prior than I feel there were none later just because it was a winner. Be happy for the person you purchased it for. Wasn't the point a chance for them to win??? It was also your risk it would be a winner when you gave it away, if you weren't feeling 100% generous with it. If it hadn't won would you feel the same?
It might be a nice gesture for the perosn who received it to share some of the winnings with the purchaser but perhaps it didnt cross their minds?

well no, if you bought them a bath basket would you think its right for them to share the bubble bath, or a meat and cheese tray would you expect them to share that with you? so why would it be right for them to share their winnings with you, it was a luck of the draw. sorry to be so blunt, im just stating the truth. i got a lottery ticket last year from my brother in law and i won $35 and i was so happy, but i did try to share it with him and he told me no because it was a gift.

If you gave it as a gift case closed, if you made an agreement with them for a shared purchase then you would be entilted to a share.

Only if that was decided when you gave it. Prior to the scratching. Other than that it's a gift pure and simple. Sorry!

You should negotiate an agreement prior to purchasing it for them. If they are under 18 you can get into trouble if it ever came up that they were underage. Just something to think about.

only if he wants to. by giving as a gift, you put no restrictions on it. if he lost, would you make him pay half for it?
if he's a good guy, he might give you a cut. but there's no obligation.

Legally no. It's their ticket, they paid for it.
Customarily, you should get a taste.

Did you buy it for them or for yourself? If it is theirs why do you think they owe you half?
