I can't say that I'm surprised that something idiotic like this happening on Yahoo Answers. Sometimes, I wonder just who the people are that are writing what rules and regulations are considered acceptable and a violation. I've answered lots of questions in the past month and on almost all of my Q & A
messages, instead of posting the usual holiday greeting, I've been saying Happy Holidays on all of my messages and answers this week. I guess I was lucky that I wasn't as specific
as you because I came very close to saying the same thing!! O_O

This politically correct b.s. has gone so far in the toilet that it sucks! I hate having to worry about offending someone every time I open my mouth. I guess you have to be non-specific in your greetings. And people wonder why some of US turn into Scrooges and Grinches this time of year? Because the Q & A
Board acted Scroogey and Grinchey to make us that way. We obviously aren't supposed to celebrate Holidays and send out good wishes this time of year. I hate to think of what is coming next!!

And in answer your question, I think that you receiving a VN for what you said is totally wrong, wrong wrong! I also got a VN from Q & A for being "non-responsive" to someone who was asking all sorts of personal Q & A about peoples' honest
feelings on abortion issues. I said that I thought the subject was too mature, controversial and inappropriate to have been
posted on a site like this where even kids under the 13 year age that lie about their age limit read these Q & A. Sometimes, subjects like this are just tmi and very offensive to certain people.

Hope you had a wonderful day on Dec. 25th. How's that for being completely politically correct out the b u t t?? Yeah, I know, I think Yahoo's policy s u c k s too. Whatever in the world happened to our rights to free speech and press? Evidently, these rights must not apply to this site. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what you did!! In fact, I think that is was very nice, even if you did receive a VN.

*~Passes out hugs, good cheer and presents to everyone~*

I believe you got a violation because you probably posted a comment in the question section, which is considered a violation.

Who cares! It's Christmas people!! Get a life!!

This person was just trying to be nice!!

Merry Christmas!!

Happy Holiday!!

I noticed a couple of Merry Christmas questions/messages that were deleted. I guess because Y/A is a diverse community they don't want to offend anyone or get anybody upset. But thank you for wishing others a merry Christmas.

You were right to wish people a Merry Christmas if that's what you wanted to do.

Technically, it is a violation if you didn't ask a question but you'd have to be a really pathetic little vermin child to report somebody for wishing others happiness.

Merry Christmas.

Sounds like pure stupidity to me, yet I'm not surprised. I have gotten a couple violations that were almost as bogus as the one you described.

Meanwhile, much trashier stuff seems to stay on here. Yahoo really needs to work on its standards as to what is and isn't a violation.

At the risk of getting a violation myself for this answer, Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!! :-)

lol i did say last night it was prob against the rules i dont think anyone believed me will we all get a violation notice for wishing you one back
some of the things we get violations for are really strange
and to be honest their policy doesnt make much sense either and should get a violation notice for not explaining what is not acceptable

No I for one do not think that that was right! If those people that send out violation notices knew you like we all do they'd see that you are the most sweetest lady on Answers ! And I did not say that cause you are my sister !
