can an alcoholic just give up is it that easy?

my friend was drinking daily but now says she stopped and will do it is that poss?

alcoholism is a disease. you just cant put down. and next to heroin it is one of the few things you can die from if you aren't being tended to medically while in detox.

no you cant just put down the bottle and walk away if you are truly an alcoholic....you need to be in a rehab. its absolutely impaired that you are under medical attention.

"No, they can not stop that easy. unless, they are not really an alcoholic. but also,some people cannot become alcoholics. some are if they were immune to alcohol. I know, for I am one. I can become drunk, and feel all the affects. but no matter how much I drink, I can stop and never drink any more, after weeks or months of drinking. that was when I was young, I do not drink today at all. maybe one beer is about three weeks or month. I usually like mixed drinks a lot more than beer.

it possible for an alcoholic to want to stop,if your friend says she just woke up one morning and stopped, it is possible. 'but' it is important for you to remember that as the case with many addictions it is possible for her to go back to the habit so iguess it is possible but remember it is your responsibility to be supportive.

It depends on the person. If, she says she stopped, then believe her. Give her a chance, encourage her along.
