My ex firmly believed by frequenting those places that stay open on Christmas Day, we were the cause of those employees not getting to spend their Christmas with their loved ones. So he flat refused to go anywhere on Christmas Day and felt everyone should have banded together as well and force those companies that stayed open on Christmas purely for profit to close. Whether I agree with him or not is not my question though, how do you feel on the matter is my question?

Some people prefer to work and get time and half pay.

This world is too big for everyone to think the same way.

I've been to the movies with the whole family after dinner!

I know what you mean. We went and got a fast food sandwich earlier and at first I felt guilty they were working, but the people there were laughing and seemed to be having a good time. We'd already celebrated Christmas this weekend, so if I were working, I would have been fine with going in today. I also know some folks don't celebrate Christmas or are alone and they might rather be busy working. It was rather nice back when stores were closed for Christmas and my family could all be together, but I realize times do change.---Luvs

I have no qualms about going to a movie or other place on Christmas day. I once worked in "non-essential" places myself, and I gladly worked because I usually got overtime or holiday pay, and I needed it. I always volunteered, but then it was when I was single and wasn't doing anything anyway. I think that may be the case with most people you find working on Christmas or any other holiday--they are in it for the money.

It seems so wrong to not have any place to go on Christmas Day. My town is completly closed down. Not even the liquor store is open this year...it's strange. Businesses are scared to ruffle the feathers of the people who are traditonal about this day. Personally, I think it's a trend that is dangerous in a so-called "free country" like the USA! After the election, I'm sure things will go back to normal & making that extra buck!

staying open on Christmas may be for helping people who don't have anything to do and making their day a bit easier....i think we have come into a society that doesn't feel as strongly as we were raised about family time....it would of been unheard of even when i raised my kids but now days it is different...my husband works at a hospital so i am used to this cause unfortunately the world doesn't stop because its a holiday and many people in this country of different origin and religion do not celebrate Christmas

Some people have a tradition of going to movies on Christmas, at first it was a little strange to me, but OK, if they are having fun, that is fine.

I always felt guilty having people work too. Many cannot avoid it however, police, fire, rescue, medical care, etc WE should be extra kind to them. Here in SC everything seems to be closed, but I have heard the fire trucks and answered a fire call, so, thank heaven for the people who do work!

I hope you are the children are having a wonderful day, the best to you!

I can understand his reasoning, I don't do the self checkout thing because it puts cashiers out of work.

But, I'm here on Answers because all the restaurants, stores, movies, etc are closed (well, the gas stations are open, but I can only get 4 gallons of gas in my tank). Of course the bars are open, but, well, that's not really where I want to be any day.

But, no, it does not seem wrong to me. We have the option to work or not. Most places down here try and arrange their hours and employees so that they get at least part of the day off.

There are always going to be people that have to work on holidays. People are traveling and need gas, police, fire fighters, doctors and nurses with patients. Women have babies too. I don't think the retail stores or restaurants need to be open but that is up to them. I used to work on christmas when my son was at the exes and it was better than sitting at home. So it is 6 of one ,half a dozen of the other.

When I was a teen, I worked as a theater usher and new motion pictures "opened" at Christmas. In fact, Christmas Eve was the only time the theater closed.

I feel it's fine... There are a lot of people (obviously) who have nothing productive to do on this day. Why not let them work and make a few more dollars....

I just talked with my Son, who is divorced and has two children that he can't see on this day... he is miserable... he said it looks like a ghost town... really strange, but the theater is open so he is going to see a new film... Thank God his has something to do to keep him occupied and keep his mind off the fact that he doesn't have the children with him today!

So, I'm glad... there are some people willing to work today! And I'm glad my son has somewhere to go and will maybe be able to laugh a little!
