Built in 10/100 base would be your ethernet port (for wired connection) Built in wireless lan basically says it all it has a wireless connection built in. But if you'd like a better wireless connection the prices range on the adapters but you can go here http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2052810031+1133510031&name=Internal+Antenna and browse around (I always read the reviews before deciding on a product).

Do you buy your internet now? Wireless is short range, like in your house, or your library, or a coffee shop. If you buy internet in your house already, like DSL or cable, you need a wireless base , called a WiFi router, to link from your modem to your laptop. Or at your school or librbrary it will say "wireless networks found, do you want to connect?" Maybe your close neighbour has WiFi and if it detects it, you could ask to use it.
A Coffee shop or the like may provide WiFi for free or they may employ a service to get your credit card number and sell time to you.

Places may choose to scramble the signal, called "Encryption" requiring you to enter a Key to connect. If you buy a base, you may wish to turn on encryption to prevent other people using your stuff.
