Because there are teams that are better than them in their division. Plus, it doesn't matter who you beat.

Its just because of the competition within each division. Philly is last in the division with what will be an 8-8 record after beating the Bills next week. Think about how good that division is to have an 8-8 record and still miss even contending for the wildcard. The Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins just won at the right time.

i do no longer think of the Eagles have been given fortunate in any respect against the Giants yet confident I do think of the Giants will make the playoffs through fact the Cowboy's ultimate agenda seems too stressful for them to conquer.

The best the Eagles can do is get into a three way tie with Redskins and Vikings for the last playoff spot. In a three way tie, the tie breaker is best conference record and theirs is worse than Minnesota's or Washington's.

damn good question...it took me some time.basically it comes down to since they would be in a tie with the skins, the tie breaker would go to the skins because since they split their games the next tie breaker would be conference records ,which the better record belongs to the skins.so basically they are officially the last place team in the NFC east and can not be picked over the skins for a playoff spot.

They split with Washington..... same divisional record (assuming WA loses to tie at 8-8),, better common opponent record, better conference record

Washington also beat Philadelphia once, and they could be 9-7 if they beat a Dallas team who's resting ALL of their starters.

Its because Minnesota and Washington have a better confrence record. Also, Minnesota and Washingtons records would be 9-7 if the win next week.

Because of the other two top teams in the NFC Central division.
It's unfortunate, but Philly had a shot at it, but Donovan's return came a bit too late. Maybe next year......

I have to keep explaining it every week:
1. your off base on the record. The Eagles are 7-8.
2. Head-to Head doesent mean everything. There 11 playoff tie breakers to decide between 3 or more teams
from yahoo.com:
Three or More Clubs (Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tiebreaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
1. Apply division tiebreaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tiebreaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants. 2. Head-to-head sweep. 3. Best won-lost percentage in games played within the conference. 4. Best won-lost percentage in common games, minimum of four. 5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in conference games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss
When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tiebreaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.
someone the other week told me I was wrong about the division placing. They were wrong. Read scenario #1
there are 3 or more teams here
the eagles can finish no higher than last in their division with their record. Minnesota has clinched the #2 spot in the NFC North. New Orleans has clinched the #2 spot in the NFC South. Washington will finish 3rd in the NFC East over the Eagles if they both tie via the redskins better confrence record(6-5) vs the eagles (5-7)
in a tie breaker between 3+ teams, a team thats 4th place in their division does not get in over a team thats 2nd or 3rd place in another division. So, even though the eagles beat New Orleans, and if New Orleans and Philidelphia both finish 8-8, minnesota and washington both loose;new orleans gets the spot because they would be 2nd in the NFC south vs the eagles 4th in the NFC east
remember, when your looking at sites for tie breakers, only read the scenarios between 3 or more teams, because 3 teams are involved in the NFC wild card race.
sorry, your not getting in based off of confrence records and position in a division. 4th dont get in over a 2nd in a tie breaker. Next season, maybe your team will do better.
thumbs downs? this answer is right. Eagles cannot finish ahead of washington in their division if they both finished 8-8. They dont own any tie breakers over the other 2 clubs, eventhough they beat them. Head-to-head does not apply when theres 3 or more teams involved.
