It's always hard when someone looses a family member. All you can do is be there for that person. Tell them you are so sorry for their loss. Let them cry and cry with them. Give them a hug to show you care. Ask what their grandpa was like or ask to see photos. Maybe even help them make a memory book of him even though it hurts. Help them remember the good times. No one ever gets over a loss, but it lessens over the years. I miss my dad and he died in '97. I am just so grateful for the memories we had together.

Assuming he was old sick in pain etc.Tell them that would they not rather have him in peace than alive suffering, just so they can have his companionship. Most times people are sad about death because they feel that person deserted them, they forget what the person who died was feeling or how miserable they may be.If this person loved gran father tell them that he would be happier if thy would go on with life don,t be sad cause he is better now.

There's nothing you can do or say that will make a difference. Just be there. Knowing that you are there and that you care about the Friend will help. The gift of time is the most valuable gift you can offer anyone.

Don't talk about him - that will upset her even more. I know it did when people talked about my grandfather. Just be a good friend..be someone she can trust. Explain the situation to a mom or close relative and ask if you two can hang out...go to the movies, shopping etc to keep her mind off it.

The best thing for you to do is stay by their side and help them out. Try not to make any cold jokes hoping it will cheer them up cuz sometimes they just take it the wrong way. So I guess just help them out the best you can.
Good luck!!

Let them know you're available if they want to talk or if they need anything. Just listening to them talk about their feelings is sometimes the best thing you can do for them, and oftentimes is what they need most.
