Well first of all you have to check whether the game has online play or not, for example Mario Strikers has online play while wii sports doesn't just check the box of the game to see.

If you have a wireless router, that works pretty well.
Or, theres an adapter at Wal-mart you can get.

But, there isn't much reason to take the wii online unless you want to download old nintendo games.
