Good school -- one of the better SUNY schools.
The state of New York does not make the same commitment to its institutions of higher learning as other states -- so none of the SUNY schools are in the same league as public universities like Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, Virginia, UNC or Wisconsin. If you threw a dart at a map of the United States, you would probably hit a state with a better public university than anything in NY.
That being said -- a degree from SUNY Buffalo is not something to be embarrassed about.

I've got a kid attending, who really likes it a lot. It's not a pretty campus, but the kids are a pretty laid back group who know they're getting a good education for a reasonable price -- leaving more money for grad school.
Don't let the weather scare you - the academic buildings on the North Campus are connected so you don't have to go outside. It is cold, obviously. My kid says there's always something interesting and fun going on. I have another kid who goes to Penn State, who isn't as happy with that college experience...says it's just too big. A lot will depend on the program you're in, and what you're looking for in a school. Check out studentsreview.com, theu.com and the chat boards at collegeconfidential.com

It's a decent school.
It's very big, so you'll have a lot of opportunities in terms of your social life and the amount of classes offered.
Television news host/ CNN correspondent Wolf Blitzer went there, as did Harvey Weinstein (cochair of Miramax), Tom Toles, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, and Dr. Zhou Ji, Minister of Education in China.
