This one has actually happened to me before. I need a respective answer and a solution. I have a white dress, wedding/ball gown type. It's been in a bag for some time now and at one time it was a brilliant white. Now it's a dingy off white, turning yellowish brown. What causes this and what can I can I do to return it to it's former glory. I need it for a project real soon. I've considered dry-cleaning as an option. Any information and/or help is most welcome.

you need to take it to a dry cleaner and hopefully they'll be able to fix it. if you are planning on storing a wedding dress it needs to be stored properly which i believe a dry cleaner can do as well. they put it in a certain kind of box with acid free paper in it that will keep out whatever it is that makes it yellow.

I don' t know if dry cleaning will return the garment to it's former brilliance.

I can tell you never store clothes for long periods in plastic. You can buy cloth garment bags for storage. The plastic gives off a vapor that discolors the fabric.

The best thing to do it take it to a dry cleaners with a good reputation. And it it restored and cleaned. Next time you store the dress, I would invest in a vacum seal bag, so not air and other particles can get in the bag.

Sounds like climate stain... Usually happens in humid climates to clothes that aren't exposed to good air circulation. Soak it in hot water and an oxygen based cleanser (like oxyclean) over night.
