2 weeks ago I downloaded the trial version of kaspersky internet security (thanks god). And from time to time it tells me that an attempt to attack my computer has been detected and blocked. How is it that other people know my IP adress and try to enter my computer? It also shows me the IP adresses of the attackers. What should I do? Does it mean that my pc has any trojan or spyware, and if yes how to resolve this problem?

It is probable that no one is singling you out to be attacked. What you are describing is so commonplace, it has acquired the name "internet background noise". Totally normal and expected and nothing to worry about, as long as you are firewalled. Just a bunch of "bots" doing there thing. These bots, often of Chinese origin will scan random IP addresses and then scan each individual port to see if it is open and vulnerable. But your firewall is blocking it, and that is exactly why we use firewalls.

And even if you weren't firewalled, and had an open port, the attacker would need to find and exploit some vulnerability in your Windows or some other software in order to compromise your machine. So always keeping your Windows and all your other programs 100% patched and updated is necesssary also.

Really, much ado about nothin'!

Hackers do not need to know your IP address to attack it. they simply run a program which randomly picks a range (such as 192.168.0.xxx) and they will try 192.168.0.1, then 192.168.0.2, then 192.168.0.3, etc. Sooner or later they will randomly hit your IP address. It is not usually to see some kind of an "attack" against a computer about once every 6 to 10 minutes on a busy Internet connection.

If the IP address is on your ISP (meaning the first three digits are the same as your IP address), then contact your ISP and let them know. If probably means that someone on the ISP is infected with a virus and trying to infect others. This will let the ISP block them, and contact them asking them to clean the PC.

If it is outside of your ISP, there is little you can do, as privacy laws make it so that it is illegal for the other ISP to reveal who it is. Keeping your firewall (kaspersky) up to date is about all you can do.

If your PC was infected, you would probably being getting kaspersky messages that something is trying to send unauthorized messages OUT of your computer, not that people are trying to get IN to the computer.

If you are still concerned, run a different spyware scanner from time to time (such as Spybot Seek & Destroy) to look for anything kaspersky is missing. No spyware scanner is perfect.

Could be hackers looking for vunerable computers. Could be your ISP trying to run tests.

Take the ISP number and go to dnsstuff.com. You can look up info there.

it's possible that's it's a trojan. Since you have their ip address, report it to microsoft. google "report hackers to microsoft" and it will give you the info you need.
