Yes it COULD. The reason yours might requier a higher grade is that it could be a sport engine which may have a higher compression than the standard engine. In this case the low grade would be able to ignite before it is supposed to, that would cause loss of performance and a nasty sound know as a knock or gas ping sound.

a 2* engine should run just fine, a 4* unit will need the timing adjusting for the lower octane rating and will be slightly down on power. Also extended use on unleaded may cause excessive wear on the valve seats, but occasional use no problem. If you are running the car every day within a year or so you will have to modify the cylinder head to fit hardened valve seats.

Yes and no, the main difference between leaded fuel and unleaded fuel is the removal of lead from unleaded.
As a result old car were designed with the understanding that the lead in the fuel could be used to lubricate the valve stems in the cylinder head.
As a result if you use unleaded fuel you need to add lead additive to the fuel to ensure that the valves are correctly lubricated.
Ja.

it will but you may need to put additive in it as the valve seats on older engines were designed for leaded fuel..which the 'lead 'bit protected the seats....unleaded does not do this so wear increases..and engine life can be affected

yes it will but depending on age and make it may need new valve seats fitted or a fuel additve to stop the seats wearing, the lead not only raises the octane but protects the engine as well

Hi Daniel
Yes mate it can, but the car will nned to have its timing changed to prevent 'pinking' Assuming its an older car, pop into your local garage, and this will take about 10 mins, im guessing around £10-20 as it wont take long.
Hope this helps...merry xmas

Yes it does but your engine might need to be re-set slightly which your local garage will be able to tell you.
