if your team has everything sewn up as far as the play-offs are concerned and you are playing division rival who is out of the play-offs. would it be a smart long term startedgy to lose the game on purpose?

1 win could drop the team out of the play-offs 3 or 4 spots down in next years draft. instead of the no 8 pick they might get the no 12 for example. when you have to think about playing that team 2 times a year in the future.

i did not mean to obvliously 'throw the game' but if everything is locked up and you could delibrately go into the game with no gameplan, playing back-ups etc. i think the league would have issues if the belive you intentionally lost on purpose. if they could take away the pats 1st round pick for spy gate. they would probably do similar for throwing a game

it would be an interesting dilemma. i think Dallas will sit romo after the first big sack on sunday why risk an injury. give him 2 + weeks to make sure his thumb is 100% ready for the play-offs. but the redskins are playing for the play-offs

Your logic would apply in the tampa Carolina game the bucs could lose to screw the panthers draft spot.

I remember hearing about that years ago when two of the worst teams, with the same record, played each otehr in the last game of the season. A team could technically lose by forefeit. If they don't show up on time, they will automatically loose. So why even play? The reason is money and the poor selections in the draft. If you look at many of the great players in the NFL, you will see they were not top picks. Some were not even picked up in the first round. Many top picks were busts. Also if a team is that bad, they might want to trade down meaning giving up a first round pick for a couple of second round picks. They could also pick up players cut by other teams.

no professional sports team ever loses on purpose. sure they're highly motivated by money but they also have what made them play a sport in the first place-the love of the game and the desire to be the best.

No way. No team would go as far as letting a team beat them on purpose. You might see clinched teams bench their starters, but never will they intentionally let another team beat them. There is a thing called MOMENTUM and INTELLIGENCE.

That is actually an aspect that is rarely discussed it would be a good idea, ut I don't think you ever want to coach losing especially if you are going into the playoffs
