How do you do a power-slide on DS mario kart?

I cant figure out how 2 do it!

when you go to a corner, hold r. the kart will start sliding. from there, alternate between the left and the right on the d-pad. if you keep doing it, sparks should come out. when there are red sparks, let go of the r button. you'll boost, and that's a power-slide.
