I'm stuck at a plateau in my 100 back. I go a 1:05.25, but I've gone faster then that before(many times). But for some reason during high school season right now, I've only been able to hold the 1:05 (5 meets in a row.) Any advice?

Overcoming the hump is truly a challenge sometimes, I do not envy you! However, you can overcome this so don't fear. Everyone plateau's at some point, the worst part is when there seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. but have faith, you can do it!

First I'd say talk to your coach, he or she will have the best insight on your technique and workouts. Ask for an eval and some suggestions on getting faster.

Second, if your coach is not helpful enough, check out a swim camp or some personal coaching. Nike holds great camps during the summer.

Third, re-evaluate your mindset. Create new goals and look back at your history to see if you recognize any patterns you may have to break.

Fourth, come to terms with the plateau. Don't stress over it, stress will slow you down. Accept that you have reached a benchmark and are sitting on a certain time right now but that it won't last forever. And keep up the good work, push yourself and use every available resource. You're an athlete, a finely tuned trianing machine - but that doesn't come cheap. Step back and look at your life as a whole, identify any unnecessary stressors and make sure you keep things in perspective.

Good luck!

i've been there! Its hard to step out of that box. you just need to work on your upper body and leg stength. Do more pull and kick. Really work on your endurance. Sprint it out when you get the walls. Do your best. I have confidence in you (not in a creepy way of course!)

TO pump you up during your race imagine a huge piece of cake or a hott guy at each wall. That should really cause you to go faster!!
