Are all wireless cards designed to be used with any router? I have a verizon router and need to hook up another desktop PC to access the internet. All the wireless cards that I come across with at staples don't say anything about being universal or interchangable. Will I have to go through Verizon for a wireless card?

As long as the router is 802.1b/g standard, then any 802.1 b/g wireless adapter will work with it. This is the most common standard for wifi today. You can either have one that plugs into a USB port or an internal PCI card. Expect to pay around £20 for a USB wireless adapter.

Well all of the 802.11b/g/n cards are supposed to work with any 802.11b/g/n router. So any card should work. I have had very good luck with most of the Dlink and Linksys cards as well as many others. I would say, get one, at least if it didn't work Staples will take it back (but it will work.) I would say get an 802.11g card (no reason to buy the more expensive N standard unless you have an N router)
If you are using a desktop or just want to go inexpensive just get a USB Wifi adapter. They usually are around 20.00.
In fact if you don't mind ordering online here is one for $9.95

If you have a newer laptop you may already have Wifi built in to the unit. Check the specs before buying.

I have no experience with the Verizon unit so don't know what the compatibility with standard 802.11b/g would be. The information with it should tell you.

There are 3 grades of Channels for a router B G and N most common ones are G.That should be all that matters. But if you are useing it at home just use an external wireless adapter much easier to install and workds fine all you do is plug it into your usb and thats it.Hope this helps you with your question.

Verizon recommends a G speed rating on wireless cards used with their router. Just about any name brand should work since they all use the same protocol. Go here for further info: http://www22.verizon.com/content/consumerfios/faqs/faqs.htm

Essentially yes. Only difference is the standard they use.

Most of the ones you buy nowadays use the 802.11g standard. It's the 'g' that is important. These are backwards compatible with the 'b' standard also...but at reduced speed.
Chances are your router is a 'g' if it was purchased in last few years.

YES! I've got a Belkin going to a Netgear and it works really good. They are all designed to be universal but DO NOT BUY BELKIN!!!! They used to be good but now they aren't. AND DO NOT BUY DYNEX! Its the same thing as belkin but worse. They DO NOT work.
