With current technology, there is no way we can get to an extrasolar planet in a billion years (literally).
No planet in our own solar system is habitable, apart from Earth. Even Mars has a cold, low pressure, high carbon dioxide atmosphere that would swiftly kill anyone who is not in a pressurized suit. Venus' surface temperatures can melt lead.

Mars makes Antarctica look like a vacation spot.

Pluto...oh wait that isn't an official planet any more.

If we had to go to another planet, it would have to be a terrestrial planet. Otherwise, we could never land and could not stay very long. This leaves Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Compared to Earth, Mercury and Mars are much smaller. Earth is already fairly packed with people, so it would not be wise to choose a planet 1/5 the Earth's size. Venus is very close in size to Earth. Therefore, I would select Venus.

If anything catastrophic happened and the earth is destroyed..there would be no place to go that is compatible that we get to with our current technology...if earth were to meet up with a catastrophic event that doesn't destroy the earth...man would most likely survive and evolve or devolve into the situation.

None yet, but plans are in the works. we're building the Intl. Space Station. that will naturally lead us to the Moon. from there we have a perfect jump off point to Mars.
now, the immediate possibilities will include module building or preferably underground construction. but the wonderful idea is in the long-term plans for Terraforming. it is theoretically possible to tranform a likely candidate to a breathable atmosphere. obviously this is a ways off but it's the general train of thought in highly optimistic terms, I believe. and I can imagine the technical and cosmic variables that we'd face. our bodies would have to undergo a bit of transformation too. all in the plan someday I suppose?

if a catastrophic event were to occur on earth we don't have the technology to move even a tiny portion of earths population. the best we could hope for now is a lunar colony. and its doubtful if that would last more than a few months. so if you are worried be prepared.

If something happens to Earth then we all die...

Mars is a similar planet as Earth but it not capable of sustaining living things such as the ones living in Earth. And Mars being farther from the sun, the weather there is mostly cold.

Hope this helps: http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/mars_tape_030819.html
