The last Ice Age left the North American continent covered with forests. It has been said that that a squirrel could travel from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi River without touching the ground. The trees supplied wood for houses and ships. The coasts and the system of rivers in North America facilitated trade, especially in furs. The mighty rivers like the Mississippi, the Missouri, and the Ohio made river transportation and commerce easier. The fertile soil was productive for crops like corn, cotton, and tobacco, etc.
The Appalachian Mountains are not too far from the coast in the North but gradually branch out further to the South. This encouraged the creation of plantations in the South and the importation of slaves. In New England the rivers made possible the building of water mills which facilitated the growth of the textile industry. An example of this was the town of Pawtucket in Rhode Island. This was the start of the Industrial Revolution in North America. I hope that this has been a help to you. If so please give me ten points.

of course. The most fertile landscape was the most productive (agriculturally) and had the most people. Before the European invasions the most fertile places were the Mississippi valley and delta, the East and West Coast. These places had the densest population.
The colonists generally followed this settlement pattern
